Noise for Signal was the title of my 2018 exhibition at the Baahng Gallery in NYC.
An overview of the exhibition can be seen in this video.
One major component of the show was the animation, President: "Why?"
Nine-and-a-half minutes long, President: "Why?” was created from more than 3,500 “degeneration” prints, which I also array in mural-scale installations. The source materials — tiny reproductions of head-shop posters advertised in early-1970s comic books — were originally distorted by cheap printing techniques. My processes push these flaws across the border between recognizable imagery and abstraction, revealing the towering ideals of the 1960s as battered and degraded, yet still beautiful.
All 3561 “degeneration” prints will eventually be posted here.
Below is a selection of work from the exhibition as well as installation shots.
